Andreas Klow, a successful lawyer based in Malmö, Sweden, has meticulously curated his wardrobe since his law school days. His collection stands as a testament to timeless pieces fashioned from quality fabrics to ensure longevity and intended to be passed down to his two sons when the time comes.
“Each piece tells a story,” confirms Andreas, “I can think about specific times when I wore a suit or one of my tweed jackets.” His love for clothing stems from childhood memories of observing his grandfather’s don trench coats, overcoats, and smart shirts paired with ties. As a student, he commenced his collection, which flourished significantly once he entered the legal profession.
“I often get asked how many suits and jackets I own, and my response remains the same—never enough!” chuckles Andreas. “There’s always a passion for the next thing, the deeper you dwell into the rabbit hole the more particular your taste can become”. He openly admits to becoming ‘quite nerdy’ about his sartorial interests.
Selecting an item to share with us posed a challenge. Eventually, his choice settled on a pair of Ralph Lauren shoes crafted by Crockett & Jones. With a double leather sole and shell cordovan, these shoes perfectly represent durability, ideal for colder, damp days, and versatile enough to adapt to various occasions. “If you have flannels, tweeds, the kind of Barbour-jacket style then it is the perfect shoe. It’s a Derby so not as formal as an Oxford” elaborates Andreas. The shoes seamlessly complemented the outfit he wore at Pitti Uomo in Florence this January, featuring a pair of dark green velvet trousers and a brown cashmere jacket — the latter being a recent addition from a local tailor.
Alongside their beautiful craftsmanship, these shoes prioritise practicality. “I bought some things over the years that are too precious. Beautiful, but easily ruined. These shoes, they can be worn a lot and they will still hold up” asserts Andreas. Durability stands as a cornerstone in his wardrobe philosophy. “I want to buy things that I know I can wear for the next 20 years. Quality is extremely important to me.” Twelve years on, with minor repairs to their toes, these shoes remain steadfast on their original soles. ”If you buy good fabrics and take care of it, it will hold up for a very long time, particularly shoes, jackets or overcoats” confirms Andreas.
London serves as a must destination in his quest for enduring attire, alongside his long-lasting love for Italian fabrics. “I don’t like everything coming from the same place,” continues Andreas, noting Hong Kong as another hotspot for superior menswear and the online second-hand market for previous finds. “I usually go made to measure or bespoke to, to get exactly what I want. This way I can also choose the exact fabric I want, which is also important”. Bolstered by friends in the industry and enduring relationships with Italian tailors, his collection continues to expand. “I like small makers over big brands. I am picking up a new jacket from a young tailor while I am in Florence in January. He just started his own brand after working with big names in the industry and I love that I am one of his first customers.”
Years of exploring different fabrics, cuts, and discerning what worked and what didn’t, have allowed Andreas to develop and refine his distinctive personal style. Currently, a favourite look is what he jokingly refers to with friends as the ‘Loro Piana man’. “It is the classic Italian gentleman who is wearing really nice clothes. No fuss, no frills, clean cut, and extremely good fabrics,” Andreas explains. His interest in a refined yet elevated style coexists with a love for colour and playful outfits. His collection proudly showcases bold-patterned tweed jackets and brightly coloured attire. “At one point, I owned three or four purple jackets, which could be strange for most,” confesses Andreas, “But sometimes, you just need a purple jacket—it’s about having fun. It brings me joy.”
