Jamie Needs a New Shirt: The Oxford Cloth
By Jamie Ferguson

‘Jamie Needs a New Shirt’ is the first of a series of videos that showcases the quality of the Thomas Mason cloth range in the vein of a ‘How to Style’ feature, but with a twist and tongue planted firmly in cheek.

Across the series we follow the exploits of a somewhat hapless main character, as he navigates the oft murky waters of men’s style. Aiding him on this perilous voyage are a few friends from the wide world of menswear, a trusty narrator, and the Thomas Mason Bespoke range firmly in hand.

All shirts have been made specifically for these videos and are the direct result of combining the beautiful cloth of Thomas Mason with the shirtmaking talents of Jakes Ldn.

For the first shirt I made with Jake I wanted something that was going to fit loosely into my definition of ‘Ivy/Preppy’. This tends to be my go to style as I find you can very easily dress it up, down and everything in between.

To that end I chose the classic ‘Oxford 75’ quality from Thomas Mason’s Bespoke range in a wonderfully versatile light blue with white stripe but went for the slightly wider striped option to give it a bit of difference from the usual ‘Bengal’s’.

I love the silhouette Jake gives his OCBD’s, which tend to be more boxy and traditional; helping it pair with tailoring just as easily as it does with jeans or chinos or, dare I say it, wearing it untucked… The softly rounded collar and unusually large chest pocket adding the final visual flourishes to an otherwise classic shirt.

I always knew that I would match this shirt with some type of olive green suiting and there is, in my opinion, no better stop than The Anthology. This suit is made up in their standard house cut, from a handsomely schlumpy cotton/linen.

I added a pop of colour with a brushed Shetland jumper from Jamieson’s via Parisian haberdasher Beige Habilleur, a black woven leather belt from Berg and Berg, off white collegiate socks from AWMS and black cordovan penny loafers from Alden.

Now let’s dunk this olive in the martini,

Cheers!

Jamie
